Did you know....

to be read with as few breaths and pauses as humanly possible
TRISTAN:...that "callapitters" bodies are segments and they don't have lungs they just have little holes in their sides and they don't even breath the air just goes in and comes out at. the. same. time. and they have little suction cups on the bottom and you [mommy] would think they were gross but daddy and I would think they are cool and they don't chew like us, they chew side to side and they have 3 little feet on the front of them that they don't. even. know. about. and those become the feet of the BUTTERFLY and my "callapitters" are "big jr." and "little jr" and big jr is actually really really tiny and little jr was big and fat and then today it was in its CHRYSALIS!!!!!!!! and the part that we see on the chrysalis is reeeaaally thin and on the other side is the wings.  and I don't like what my kind of butterfly it will be.  it's called a painted L.

MOMMY: painted L?  what is that?
TRISTAN: you are one
MOMMY: (thinks for a moment) Lady?
TRISTAN: (with a look of disgust) yes.
[shakes head]
MOMMY: so, what is the difference between a  chrysalis and a cocoon?  Because I always thought they were the same.
TRISTAN: no.  a cocoon is for an INCH. WORM.  they turn into MOTHS.
MOMMY: ooooohhh!  wow!  I really never knew that!  lol  [sad, but true statement]

TRISTAN: and i know the phases of their life cycle...egg...larvae...callapitter...chrysalis...butterfly!  and that is something called....mefa...mefa...mortafis???
MOMMY: (this time answers confidently) metamorphosis.  [ha!  i do know something about these little critters!]
TRISTAN: yeah!

And that. is. a. true. story.

and this is my little jr.  he seems to be going through his own sort of mefamortafis this year.  it is truly an awesome transformation from last year.  he is confident most of the time, and when he isn't, he challenges himself to do things scared.  he is reading at a late 3rd/early 4th grade reading level and is obviously thrilled to pieces about science!  he is also taking a weekly acting class offered at the school through the Broadway Center for Performing Arts.  he was really scared to go but he did and "it is a blast!"  he is a green belt in taekwondo, which means that in the intermediate classes he is the most senior belt.  (unless there are adv. green belts) and when that happens he gets to lead the bows at the end in korean.  with all those changes going on, i guess i would be this shocked at my own awesoemness as well.  :)
